Biography
Mezzo-Soprano Susannah Horowitz is a Masters graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, coached by Catherine Wyn-Rogers and James Baillieu. She is a graduate scholar BMus (Hons) of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Susannah made her debut with the Glyndebourne Festival Chorus for their Summer 2022 season and performed the title role of Carmen with Baseless Fabric in London. She has been a Young Artist with Nevill Holt Opera since 2017, including Chorus for Puccini’s Tosca (directed by Oliver Mears), cover Marcellina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (directed by Joe Austin), gala and concert performances, and documentary filming for the RIBA Stirling Prize 2019. In Autumn 2022, Susannah joined the Glyndebourne Tour in the Chorus for La bohème and other concerts.
Susannah has performed in opera scenes including Flight (Dove) - Stewardess. Hänsel und Gretel (Humperdinck) - Hänsel. Die Zauberflöte (Mozart) - Dritte Dame. Carmen (Bizet) – Mercédès. Giulio Cesare (Handel) – Sesto, in addition to working in depth on the character of Dorabella (Così fan tutte, Mozart) with British Youth Opera. During her time at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Susannah performed in two opera productions, La Rondine (Puccini) and Sir John in Love (Vaughan Williams) directed by Benjamin Davis.
Alongside opera, Susannah is an experienced choral and session singer, working with organisations including London Voices and Warner Bros Games on film, television, and game soundtracks. Susannah is credited for her vocal and cello performances on the official soundtrack to the best selling Warner Bros games title, Hogwarts Legacy. Susannah has also worked with Turner Prize winner Martin Creed at the Hauser & Wirth Gallery and Tate Britain in London, presenting exhibition performances and workshopping compositions with the artist.
Susannah has been a member of numerous ensembles, including Timothy Dean’s Vocal Consort and Choir of the Year 2012 Les Sirènes. Performances include Beethoven’s Symphony No.9 at BBC Proms 2012 at the Royal Albert Hall, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, and Stravinsky’s ‘Les Noces' at the Old Fruit Market, Glasgow. She took up a week-long residency led by Patrick Russill at Neresheim Abbey in Germany as part of their international concert series, using skills she acquired as a Renaissance music scholar with Cambridge Early Music.
Susannah has been a member of the Philharmonia Chorus Professional Singer Scheme since 2019. In 2016, she was a soloist with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for Bach’s Magnificat conducted by Richard Egarr, and was a scholar for the 2015-16 season with the Chorus. During her time at the Royal Academy of Music, Susannah performed in the Bach Cantata Series, directed by Iain Ledingham, and performed solo recitals, including a collection of Jonathan Dove’s songs. Throughout her studies she was kindly supported by the Josephine Baker Trust, and undertook many engagements as a soloist with Choral Societies and Orchestras.
She has performed in numerous masterclasses, including those led by Jonathan Dove, Karen Cargill, Anne Howells, Kathryn Harries, Patricia MacMahon, Mary Hammond, and Lucy Crowe.
